RUGBY will have a new MP at the next election after Jeremy Wright announced today (Friday) that he will not be standing again for the town.
New boundary changes mean that the present Rugby and Kenilworth constituency will be divided.

And Mr. Wright revealed today (Friday) that he will be standing for Kenilworth and Southam.

That means a new Member of Parliament will be voted in at the next election, which could be in 2009 or 2010.

But Mr. Wright vowed that, despite his decision, he will still serve Rugbeians with his full support.

He said: "The Boundary Commission's changes do not allow me to stand again for the Rugby and Kenilworth Constituency at the next election as it will not exist.

"Therefore I had to make a choice as to which part of my current seat I will contest.

"I feel it right to make that choice public so that everyone knows my position well in advance of the next General Election.

"I want to stress however, that I will continue to work just as hard for my constituents in Rugby and I will remain their MP until the next election.

"I remain committed to dealing with the issues and concerns affecting all my constituents.

"No Member of Parliament has the right to take re-election for granted and at the last election I promised to be a strong voice for the people of Rugby, which I will be until my term of office ends".

Jeremy Wright took over the seat for Rugby and Kenilworth last May, beating Labour's Andy King.
