FUNDRAISING in memory of a Rugby baby who died of a rare
genetic disorder has raised more than £10,000 for charities.

Debbie and Ian Camwell presented the money raised in honour of their son, Alex, at a quiz night at Rugby Railway Club on Friday.

The money is being distributed between Rainbows Children's Hospice for children in Loughborough and the SMA Trust.

The quiz was also a big success, raising £2,125 which will also be split between the two charities, also The Ally Cadence Trust for SMA and Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, which is due to open in Coventry later this year.

Ian said: "The evening was a fitting tribute to Alex. Alex was only alive for seven months and 200 people filled that room."

A highly competitive quiz was eventually won by local team 'Only Smarties Have The Answer' who donated their £100 cash prize back to the charity.

The Alex Camwell Tribute Fund would like to extend a special thank you to the following organisations for their superb support; The Railway Club, Lenoch Engineering, Manor Printing, Tesco, H&K, DHL UK Foundation & DHL/Unity (Tesco Frozen).

Alex was six-and-a-half months old when his parents were given the devastating news that Alex had Spinal Musical Atrophy.

He lived for 20 days after his diagnosis and died on May 6 2009, aged seven months and one day.

His parents set up The Alex Camwell Tribute Fund in 2009 by Debbie and Ian and have help rais thousands of pounds.

Debbie said: "Alex would be honoured to know that awareness is being spread through his memory, and much needed funds are being raised."
