A snooker club that helps people with learning difficulties socialise and develop maths skills is back up and running.

Rugby Community Snooker Academy (RCSA) was estabolished in 2011 and was so successful it attracted the attention of the Mayday Trust and received backing from Mark Pawsey MP.

But when the Billiard Club in Market Place closed last year, the group was left without a home.

Andy said: “After it shut I received constant messages from group members asking when the group could start again, so much so that I juggled my work commitments and re-commenced the groupin Rileys, Bank Street, every Tuesday from noon to 2pm.”

He wrote to Rileys Sports Bar to see if it could help with costs. Its managing director Maurice Kelly responded and offered £500 to help the group cover equipment, table, and transport costs.

Andy added: “Snooker is a sport that develops the mind, concentration and personal discipline.”

Rugby MP Mark Pawsey, who was at the relaunch, said: “Playing snooker is an innovative way of working with numbers.

“I’m pleased the academy has been able to start again.”
