I can understand the reluctance the local Tories are expressing over the pressure to build even more houses... but I think they are wrong.

If you do nothing with the road system and health provision and eduucation, then ok, but let us think bigger.

Rugby has been struggling, despite valiant efforts on many people's parts to market and encourage better shopping, but with an 'in-betweeny' sized population, we will never be as successful as our competitors in attracting the multiples into our town centre.

The population has to break through a threshold in order to be able to command the facilities we really want.

We want a decent road system. We want better health provision with a proper Accident and Emergency unit and we want maternity back here in Rugby.

We are fed up with having to travel to Walsgrave for our health needs, and the inconvenience that it brings us and our families.

More than anything we want to have better shopping and the more secure economy that this would bring us. We don't want to play second fiddle.

If we have the 10,800 houses that would attract about 27,000 people... on top of our current population that still only takes up to between 90,000 and 95,000.

The government would like to see Rugby with about another 20,000 people, about another 8,000 homes - that would take the population of the town to around 115,000... and approaching where we need to be.

Ok, I have been complaining about the amount of work going on and the problems it is causing and I stand by that. But if we are going to suffer so much, let us do it for a worthy cause.. one that will give us the chance of a more stable economy and the facilities that we really want.
