FUNKY folk duo Uiscedwr make a welcome return to Rugby Roots' Lawrence Sheriff School next month.
The BBC young folk award winners will be at the venue on Saturday, April 11.
The band, which features Anna Esslemont and Cormac Byrne (of the Seth Lakemen band), play an eclectic reportoire, which draws on traditions from all over Britain. It is tempered by influences as diverse as jazz, Latin, blues and klezmer.
Richard Barnes, Rugby Roots promoter, said: "Uiscedwr are quite simply one of our favourite bands. We first encountered them at Bridgnorth Festival five or six years ago, after which I wrote to a friend, saying: 'I've seen the future and it's Uiscedwr'. To use a well-worn phrase, they totally blew us away."
The band's career was put on hold about three years ago when Anna was struck down with aplastic anaemia. However, after a successful bone marrow transplant she is now fully fit again.
The concert will be opened by singer/songwriter Adriana, who supported Sheryl Crow in the US superstar's only UK headline date of her tour.
Tickets for the concert are £11 and are available from Rugby music shop, Sounds, in Church Street and direct from Rugby Roots by calling (01788) 567338/ 07768 310601. Alternatively, go on line at www.rugbyroots.com
