Rugby Theatre will be producing the show from May 9 -16 and are looking to cast the eight History Boys themselves before casting the adult characters.
An audition is being held for the roles on Sunday in Central Hall, Henry Street, across the
road from the main theatre, from 10.30am.
The boys are described as 'an unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university.
Director John Smith said: "The auditions are totally open and we are looking for new talent to fill these eight great parts in this wonderful play.
"The boys need to appear 17 or 18 years old, but could be younger or indeed older."
The boys are:
Posner - Young for his age, can ideally sing, the character most based on Alan Bennett when a boy, complex character.
Dakin - good looking and outspoken, the largest part of the boys.
Scripps - does quite a lot of narration in the play, friends with Dakin - can ideally play piano.
Rudge - Thinks a lot and works things out, considered the least clever of the group, but is into sport. Has to sing The Pet Shop Boys song 'It's a Sin'.
Lockwood - bright and thoughtful, challenges things.
Akthar - a very bright Indian lad - he need not be Indian but it would be preferable to have an Indian actor.
Timms - a bit overweight, a comedian.
Crowther - keen on acting. In the original play he is black but this is not necessary.
