THE KIND-HEARTED efforts of Advertiser readers have been thanked for raising vital funds.

Last year we ran the Last Hope campaign to raise funds and awareness for cancer sufferers Colin Howe and Russ Jones.

Both men applied for the revolutionary new drug Sutent and after initially being refused it they forked out thousands of pounds to get it.

After appealing, Colin and Russ were awarded the drug free of charge. Sadly, Russ died in October.

The Last Hope Campaign raised just over £3,200 and this week The Advertiser jointly presented the funds to Val and Colin.

Colin and Val both thanked the Advertiser and readers who donated to the campaign which ran between June and October.

Colin said: "The kindness that people showed is something that will always stay with us and in our hearts.

"I can only say thanks to everyone who donated. The generosity was amazing.

Val added: "Although Sutent didn't work for Russ in the end I think the campaign highlighted some very important issues.

"People need to know about the post code lottery which is being run over drugs like Sutent."
