RUNNING the London Marathon will be a huge achievement for one Rugby man who is facing the challenge for the first time.
Dave Corp is busy preparing for the London Marathon on April 17, which will be the first time he has tackled the 26.2 mile race.
Mr Corp. who lives in Dunchurch Road, Rugby, is raising money for the Outward Bound Trust, a charity that inspires young people through outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking and abseiling.
This year the trust will help more than 300 disadvantaged 11 to 16 year olds develop team work and problem-solving skills, whilst boosting their self confidence and self esteem.
Mr Corp said: “Running my first marathon is a bit daunting but I couldn’t have a better incentive because I’m raising money for such a good cause.
“I became involved with the charity through a ‘mentoring youngsters’ week-long programme which was an inspiring and very humbling experience.
“I worked with some youngsters who had never been to the countryside before, which most of us take for granted.
“It’s great that the Outward Bound Trust is there to encourage young people to realise their full potential.”
Ahead of the London Marathon Mr Corp has organised a fundraising event on Saturday, April 2. Dunchurch Park Hotel has offered to host the event and is providing a buffet .
There will also be a quiz, raffle, competitions and a disco.
Tickets cost £15 and are available by pledging a £5 deposit at www.justgiving.com/dave-corp.
