ENJOY a free canal boat trip on the North Oxford Canal near Rugby.

Drifters, which specialise in narrowboat holidays in Britain, is offering people the chance to try out a canal boat at Rose Narrowboats boat yard at Stretton under Fosse on Sunday, May 8.

As part of the Drifters’ Go Boating Day, Rose Narrowboats will be offering boat tours, holiday discounts and free trips aboard a skippered boat from 10am till 4pm. Rob Lawrence from Drifters said: “Britain’s canals are in better shape than ever and with new boats, new bases and even a new route opening in 2011, we wanted to celebrate by offering people the chance to get a flavour of how fantastic our boats and waterways are for free.

Around a fifth of hire boaters are new to the market each year, showing that it’s easy to learn how to steer a boat and navigate the canals. We hope our free taster sessions on May 8 will introduce many more people to the joys of a holiday afloat on our beautiful inland waterway network.”

Drifters short breaks on boats for two or four people start at £287 and weekly breaks are from £410.

The main hire boat Season runs from March to October. Narrowboats range from 42ft to 70ft and can accommodate up to 12 people. For more information 0844 984 0322 or visit www.drifters.co.uk or www.waterscape.com.
