A YOUNG talented actress from Rugby will be starring on stage in the ever-popular musical Fame.

Grace Cowell, 17, from Cawston will join fellow members of the Coventry Youth Operetta Group (YOG) as the group perform Fame The Musical - based on the 1980 film - at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry from Thursday, May 5 to Saturday, May 7.

Grace, who has been attending YOG for the last five years, has already appeared in several productions including High School Musical 1 and 2.

Her first principal role was as Ariel Moore in Footlose, which was performed at the Belgrade Theatre in May last year.

Grace, who is currently studying musical theatre at Stratford Upon Avon College and has just been offered a place on a course at London’s Italia Conti stage school, subject to funding, said she is thrilled to be playing her second principal role as Carmen Diaz in this year’s production of Fame.

YOG cast members for Fame will range from eight years old to 22 years of age.

Fame follows the story of a diverse group of students at New York City’s celebrated High School of the Performing Arts as they commit to four years of gruelling artistic and academic work.

This show is described as ‘not to be missed’ and will featured some dynamic choreography from the talented group.

Grace’s dad Clark said: “The kids really do put their hearts and souls into their performance and all punch well above their weight in terms of professionalism and enthusiasm.

“The great thing about these shows is that it gives the general public a fantastic opportunity to see some real talent, before they become famous.

“It also allows the younger members of the audience the chance to see how they too could get involved in musical theatre.”

Fame will run show nightly from May 5 to May 7 from 7.30pm. There will be a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
