With all the roadworks going on at the moment to improve the gyratory system, I thought these two very different pictures of Warwick Street might be quite appropriate.
The one above is a lovely old hand-coloured postcard which is among a few scenes of Rugby given to us by Chris Brown, who happened to pick them up in Ravenglass in the Lake District.
Although the view of Rugby School and its chapel haven’t changed - and St Matthew’s Church is still there (although it closed in 2012), the shops and houses on the right have all gone.
Looks a very pleasant area and hard to imagine the road being so quiet!
The photograph below, which belongs to Sue Berridge, looks like it might have been taken last week, but in fact it shows the original construction of the gyratory system, which was started in 1979 and finished early in 1981.
