High Street, Hillmorton
This is High Street , Hillmorton with the thatched Fenwick Hall, cottages and small holdings where Duffy Place now stands.
It is another from Lorraine Hardiman’s collection. Her grandparents had a dairy on the site, where her grandmother scalded the churns and made butter. Her grandfather took the milk around Hillmorton on a pony and trap. Customers brought out their own containers for the milk, in some cases not very clean jam jars!
Lorraine said her grandparents owned two smaller cottages on the site, tenanted by Mr and Mrs Haddon, who kept rabbits; and Mr and Mrs Slatcher and their son John. The whole area was demolished in the 1960s and Duffy Place subsequently built.
