Do you have the surname Cave?
This photograph was taken at the Cave Family History Society’s first gathering at Stanford Hall in 1978 - and the Caves will be meeting there again this Saturday, July 6.
At that time there were 33 members, now there are 660 world wide. The society was founded by its current chairman Hugh Cave of Thorney, Cambridgeshire and has Lady Braye as its Patron. This picture was brought in by Brian Cave of Bilton.
Members are all interested in their family groups and their origins. Sixty of those members have joined the society’s Y DNA Project. This has helped with linking separate groups together and identifying the group origins. A ‘core’ group in this project are closely linked to Stanford on Avon and surrounding villages.
Five members of this group have genetic links to the Cave Family of Stanford Hall in the early 16th century. The Stanford Hall branch of the family has ancestry back to Jordayne de Cave who was a retainer of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
