Do you recognise anyone on this mystery picture?

This picture is something of a mystery so we’re hoping readers might be able to shed some light on it, please.

It’s been shared with us by Marion Abernethy, who is president of the Dunchurch and Thurlaston Women’s Institute.

The picture is one among their WI archives, but it’s not necessarily a WI event.

They think it was taken in the 1950s, although they don’t know where, and is connected to Dunchurch. They also think the lady on the very left of the front row is Mrs Ethel Lampitt.

One suggestion is that it was a Mother’s Union outing, but everyone looks rather old and there are quite a few men if you look closely, so I’m not sure if this is going to prove correct! Whatever the occasion, it required someone moving the piano out onto the lawn, which you might be able to spot, just to the left of the rosebeds!

And there are plenty of deckchairs for everyone to sit and listen to the entertainment.

The gardens look smart and well maintained and are obviously very large, being able to accommodate the marquee in the background, so if anyone recognises the location, that might also be a big clue.
