Rugby High School - from the air
Any old girls of Rugby High School should instantly recognise these aerial views. There’s no dates on the pictures in our archive, but this one appears to be slightly later than the one below, as it has an extra portable hut added. I’d guess early 1970s perhaps.
The school moved to the site from Clifton Road in 1960 and the swimming pool was a later addition, opened in the summer term of 1967, after months of fundraising.
There have been many more changes and extensions to the school building since. When I started at Rugby High in 1982 it looked very different and there were several more ‘huts’ outside, which housed things like the language lab and sixth form common room as well as general classrooms.
On the right you can see all the netball/tennis courts. The swimming pool and bike shed area was developed into housing a few years ago.
