Lytham Road Coronation Day 1953

Were you living in Lytham Road in 1953? These pictures were taken at the Coronation Day celebrations on June 2. They are from Geoff Tye’s collection given to us by his daughter Hilary Curley. And her older brother Stephen is the seven-year-old boy in the front looking at the camera. Most of Lytham Road was developed in the late forties and their family moved in to a brand new house in 1949.

June 2 1953 was a cold day!

June 2 1953 was a cold day!

Below is a picture of judges and winners of the Lytham Road (south end) fancy dress parade. Hilary remembers being dressed as Little Bo Peep, but at the tender age of four was overcome by all the festivities and had to go home before it all finished.

Notice in another picture below the adults are all in winter coats as June 2 was cold, wet and miserable!
