n THERE’S a royal celebration underway in this week’s photograph, taken in 1953.
It belongs to Maureen Leach (nee Beavis) who is sixth along from the left in the white dress and wearing the crown, made by her sister at school.
Their fancy dress party was at St Phillip’s Hall on the corner of Poplar Grove and Wood Street in Rugby and all the youngsters came from Maple Grove.
Maureen can remember many of the children on the picture. They were, (on the back row from left): Glenys Dudley, Jeanne Wolfe (in the union jack dress, Maureen’s next door neighbour), Frank Beavis (Maureen’s brother - the tall pirate) Tony Dudley, Janet Elliman, Maureen Beavis, Anita Johnson, Vicky Middleton, ? Wright, ? Wright, Maureen Wright and Pauline Elliman (in the long bridesmaid dress).
Two of the little boys on the front row were John Walton and Stephen Pearson (soldier).
