The colour may not have aged well, but Roy Renshaw’s memory of this occasion hasn’t faded a bit.
He’s one of those pictured here, as a member of the Eastlands Old Boys team in 1948. Mr Renshaw, of Mercer Court, supplied this picture to us and remembers it being taken at Thornfield sports ground after the final of the Rugby Junior Football League’s Ramsden Challenge Cup.
He said: “Eastlands Old Boys beat Woodford Central Juniors by two goals to one. Over a thousand people saw the match.”
Pictured in the back row, from left to right, are trainer George Pordon, coach Don Hammond, J Mathews, V Thomas, H Clewlow, J Clewlow, T White and manager A Foster. In the centre row are P West, R Osborn, captain D Smith, D Osborn and Mr Renshaw himself in his younger days. J Thomas and D Hanson are in the front, either side of the rather fine trophy.
