AN up-and-coming band from Rugby have secured a place in the semi finals of a national festival after receiving good luck messages from famous rockers.

Cold Stone came first place in rounds one and two of the group stages of the Surface Festival, which is designed to discover and promote new talent.

Hours before their second round show Cold Stone received good luck messages from rock legends Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) and Zakk Wylde (ex Ozzy Osbourne guitarist and frontman to Black Label Society) via Twitter. Cold Stone, featuring Matt Stewart (lead guitar and vocals), Nick Harrison (bass) and James Frearson (drums), are now pushing hard for a place in the final.

The winners of the final will get to play at the O2 in London in front of representatives from Geffen Records, Polydor Records, Sony Music, Kerrang, MTV2 and many more big names in the industry.

Cold Stone, who base their sound on Guns n’ Roses, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath and AC/DC, have been gigging around the Midlands area nearly every week since October 2010 and have already secured a firm fanbase.

As part of the semi finals round the band are now preparing to perform on Sunday, July 17 at the Asylum in Birmingham.
