AMERICAN rock band the Whigs will be the third support act at the eagerly-awaited Kings of Leon concert at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
The trio, who hail from Georgia, will be kicking off the gig on bank holiday Monday, May 30, at 5.15pm.
Lead singer and guitarist Parker Gispert, drummer Julian Dorio and bassist Tim Deaux will be the first musicians heard as the Ricoh is the first venue on Kings of Leon’s UK summer stadium tour.
The Whigs released their third album, In the Dark, in March to follow up their two critically acclaimed albums Give ‘Em All a Big Fat Lip and Mission Control. They will be the first support act on stage in the stadium bowl ahead of Mona and White Lies.
Justine Hewitt, events manager at the Ricoh Arena, said final plans were now being put in place for the Kings of Leon’s only Midlands date this summer. She said: “I have seen Kings of Leon play live at Hyde Park in London and it was absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to see the band perform at the Ricoh and they are certain to give their fans a night to remember
“The Whigs have now been announced as the final support act and everything is now in place with the line-ups.
“They have performed on previous Kings of Leon’s tours and their music and sound is perfectly suited for this gig.
“The Whigs are considered to be one of America’s up-and-coming rock bands and have performed across the globe as well as on top American late night shows so it is definitely worth coming early to see all the support acts before Kings of Leon take to the stage.”
