A COUPLE’S £50,000 dream wedding was ruined when the groom was arrested after he rowed with the DJ.

John Dalton, 47, was carted off in handcuffs and warned he could be Tasered as a police helicopter hovered over the venue and more officers arrived with a dog.

He was thrown in a police cell while bride Julie, 44, spent her wedding night alone and sobbing in a swish hotel’s honeymoon suite.

In The Sun newspaper, John said: “It was completely over the top. The police turned up mob-handed as if there had been a terrorist alert.

“I got back from the station to the hotel the following morning to see my guests leaving. We spent all that money and it ended up a disaster. It was heartbreaking.”

The couple blew their life savings on the “dream” bash after being together for more than 20 years.

They invited nearly 350 guests to Coventry’s Coombe Abbey hotel and themed the wedding around ’80s hits from the likes of Duran Duran and George Michael.

But John — already irked by a couple of mistakes during the civil ceremony and reception — flipped when the DJ at the evening disco wavered from the requested playlist and spun Lulu’s Shout instead.

The groom, who admitted he’d had “a few drinks”, argued with the DJ — who then claimed he had been threatened.

Landscape business owner John said: “The next thing I knew the music was unplugged and security closed the bar.

“The rest was a blur as police marched in. I tried to reason with one of the officers but he pulled out a Taser device, pointed it at me and said he would use it if I didn’t calm down.”

John was nicked on suspicion of breach of the peace but was freed without charge after ten hours.

Julie said: “I will never forget the sight of him being led away in handcuffs like a criminal on our wedding day. It was dreadful.”

Warwickshire Police said: “We were called by hotel security who were concerned about the behaviour of a male.”
