AN 80-YEAR-OLD pensioner has described the moment she woke up to the noise of an out-of-control car smashing into her property.

The vehicle hit her wall so hard it sprayed bricks all over Jean Roberts's home, trapping her inside the house in Oliver Street, Rugby.

The car came to a stop against her neighbour's house - but amazingly no one inside the car was injured.

Instead of being frightened by the experience, Mrs. Roberts said the whole ordeal - which happened at about 2.15am last Thursday - was 'exciting'.

"We were asleep and then there was a terrific bang," she said.

"To be honest, I wasn't scared at all. It was all very exciting."

Rugby Police said two people abandoned the Peugeot 206 silver saloon and were later arrested in nearby Corporation Street.

Mrs. Roberts said she found glass showered all over the stairs, caused by the impact of the bricks from the wall.

It is believed the car lost control on the roundabout as it came off Corporation Street, and the front garden wall and a nearby bush may have stopped the vehicle from hitting the house with full impact.

"The people who did this are idiots," added Mrs Roberts.

"If the car had come a bit further, it would have badly damaged the house.

"People deliberately take a chance on the roundabout and come off here at considerable speed."

The front door of Mrs. Roberts's property has since been boarded up as repair work began.

A 29-year-old woman from Wigston was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to report a traffic collision.

A 37-year-old man from Yelvertoft was also arrested but later released without charge.
