A RUGBY woman has been angered after her elderly mother was left in hospital for three months waiting for a place at a care home.

Julia Warner, 53, of Morton Gardens said she feel felt let down by the region's social services for the 'demoralising' wait.

Julia's 83-year-old mother Barbara Clarke suffered a stroke in January and was taken to St. Cross Hospital.

Doctors told her that she would have to move from her sheltered house into a care home to continue her treatment.

But only this week, after a three month wait, has a care home place been arranged for Barbara in Rugby.

Julia said: "I am so relieved that it's finally been sorted but I am also angry that's taken so long and my mother has had to stay in hospital against her will.

"The problem stemmed from costs. We had found a place for her at a home in Rugby but that cost £530 per week and the funding for nursing care from social services is £466 per week. That left us with a shortfall of £70 which I just couldn't afford. When you've got a mortgage and have to meet rising fuel and food costs you just can't do it which was absolutely heart-breaking."

Julia was initially told that she would have to wait for a decision by a panel on whether additional funding could be found to plug the shortfall.

And she was also told that if it couldn't be found her mother may have been placed in a home in Nuneaton or Bedworth.

Julia added: "My mother is Rugby born and bred and she would have hated leaving here.

"I want this case to be highlighted because it is a grey area which could have nasty repercussions for people.

"The time delay was unacceptable. My mother paid taxes all her life and this is how she's treated in return."
