A key period property in the middle of Rugby is a blight on the rest of the high street, according to shopping guru Mary Portas

MARY Portas has spoken about the state of Rugby town centre in the conclusion of her independent government review of the high street.

As part of her review, Mary said: “When key high street buildings are in a state of disrepair or lifelessness, they can destroy the spirit and potential of the town. I saw this for myself in Rugby, where a key period property in the middle of town was left empty and was a real blight on the rest of the high street.”
