The A45 near Rugby was shut for almost five hours on Tuesday night after two cars collided near to the Fosse Way war memorial roundabout during rush-hour.
Two people were airlifted to University Hospital after the incident, which happened near the war memorial roundabout where the A45 meets the Fosse Way at around 5.40pm.
The cars involved included a silver Volkswagon Touran and a green Triumph TR6 sports car. The road didn’t open until 10.30pm.
A Warwickshire Police spokesman said the crash was being treated as a “serious incident”.
She added: “Two people were trapped in the Volkswagon Touran and one suffered a broken pelvis.
“The accident happened on the carriageway travelling from Rugby to Coventry near the Frog Hall roundabout at 5.40pm.
“Both directions were shut to allow the air ambulance extra space to land, although in the end it was decided a neighbouring field was more appropriate.
“The injured passengers were taken to hospital nearby and the road reopened at 10.30pm.
“Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.”
