POLICE are investigating a robbery which occurred on the A428 Rugby Road, Brandon in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

At about 1.50pm a 21 year old man was walking home alone along Rugby Road when he became aware of a male walking behind him.

When he was opposite Coventry Speedway the male caught up with him and asked for a cigarette. As the 21 year old went to light the cigarette the male pushed him into a push and demanded his wallet and PIN which he handed over.

The offender then punched the 21 year old in the face and ran off towards Binley Woods.

The man did not suffer any serious injuries but was very shaken by the incident.

Wayne Plester, a police staff investigator with Warwickshire Police, said: “The young man was very frightened during this incident and just handed over his wallet and PIN which is very understandable. We would advise anyone faced with this situation though to give a false number if possible and in any case to cancel the card as soon as you can.”

Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or saw any suspicious activity, is asked to contact Wayne Plester in the Local Investigations team at Rugby on 01926 415000. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
