Students across the county have been getting their teeth into four books and voting for their favourite as part of an award scheme.

Warwickshire Schools Library Service has been encouraging younsters to read and vote for the book they enjoyed the most.

The winner was announced at a special event at Avon Valley School in Rugby on October 8.

The four books shortlisted were ‘Saving Silence’ by Gina Blaxill, ‘Salvage’ by Keren David, ‘The Year of the Rat’ by Clare Furniss and ‘City of Fate’ by Nicola Pierce.

Students voted ‘Saving Silence’ as their favourite book, which they had read over the holidays.

The winning author, Gina Blaxill, said: “It’s fantastic to be part of Warwickshire Year Nine Book Awards today.

“It’s even better to win! A big thank you to everyone involved.”

Authors Gina Blaxill, Keren David and Clare Furniss held a question and answer session with the students before signing copies of their books.
