A bald eagle was spotted by a passer-by on a bridge in Whitnash on Tuesday May 24.

Dawn Cowgill was driving over Black Bridge in Church Lane when her son, George, saw the bird of prey perched on the bridge.

She believed it might belong to Warwick Castle, but a spokesman confirmed no eagles are missing from the castle. Staff at the castle check on its eagles every morning and all have been accounted for.

The origin of the bald eagle, which is native to North America, remains a mystery.

The castle had lost a white-tailed eagle called Stan four years ago, who never returned.
