Rugby will play host to the “biggest cider pub in the UK” from today (Thursday July 4) until Sunday.
The Merchants Inn in Little Church Street is hosting a cider festival, including live music, cider-themed food and 100 varieties of the drink.
Steve Heighton, from the Rugby branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, said: “Traditional ciders and perries are very much a part of British drinking legacy , unlike the big ciders you see on TV that are made from concentrates. The rise in cidermakers is a true reflection of the excellence of real apples and pears in British orchards. The Merchants is already one of the best pubs in the region for its beers but can probably argue with its usual huge range of ciders and perries to be one of the best in the whole country.” He added that the Merchants will be Britain’s largest cider pub for the duration of the festival, which is part of the Rugby Festival of Culture.
