The Herbert Gallery’s Looking in Wonderland exhibition displays a selection of the best illustrations by Sir John Tenniel for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

The exhibition introduces the bewitching set of characters encountered by Alice - the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the King and Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, the Red Queen and the White Queen.

There are also fantastic images of the strange situations she finds herself in throughout the much-loved book.

The works in the exhibition are printed directly from the original wood blocks and are perfect examples of the skill of both illustrator and engraver.

It runs at the Coventry venue until September 20 and throughout the summer holidays there are free drop-in art workshops for youngsters. For more details see theherbert.org.
