PUPILS at a village school held their own book launch for a publication they have written to help African children develop English literacy skills.

Reception class and Year Five at Knightlow Primary School children have been working together to write and illustrate stories that are designed for children in Malawi to read aloud to their friends.

The youngsters at the Stretton on Dunsmore school have spent time learning about children in Malawi and have now created a series of short stories that have been published as part of the Stories4 Change project.

Teacher Cathy Amos-Simpson said: “The children have absolutely loved it.

“They are so proud of themselves. They are proper printed books so they are really excited.”

The books will be sent out to Malawi at Christmas.

The school is hoping to take part in the project again next year.
