ONE of the first patients to have open-heart surgery presented £1,100 to Rugby’s Hospital of St Cross.
Roy Adams, 83, gave the money to the cardiac rehabilitation unit on behalf of the Zipper Bowling Association.
He had surgery 34 years ago and went on to help found the Zippers in 1996 - a national group of bowlers who have had heart surgery.
The 200 members raise money in support of hospital cardiac care services.
Roy said: “From our own experiences we know just how important the rehabilitation services are and are very grateful for all the hard work and effort they put in.”
The unit relies on donations.
