EMOTIONS were running high after the sentencing of the five Rugby people accused of murdering Gemma Hayter.

On the steps of Warwickshire Justice Centre this afternoon (Thursday) Gemma Hayter’s family said they welcome the verdict given to Chantelle Booth, Daniel Newstead, Duncan Edwards, Joe Boyer and Jessica Lynas.

Booth, Newstead and Boyer were found guilty of murder. Edwards and Lynas were found guilty of manslaughter, after being found not guilty of murder.

All five were found guilty of actual bodily harm.

Gemma’s family said after the sentencing: “Our family has found the last year, and especially the last seven weeks, incredibly difficult and today we welcome the jury’s verdict.”

Speaking afterwards Detective Chief Inspector James Essex, who has led the murder investigation, said: “I welcome the decision of the jury which will ensure that all those found guilty of causing her death have been brought to justice.”
