POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision in Little Lawford yesterday morning (Sunday).

A 20-year-old man sustained a serious leg injury when the car he was travelling in was in collision with a tree on Little Lawford Lane at about 9.15am.

A man had been seen leaving the vehicle and crossing nearby fields.

He was taken to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire where he underwent surgery for leg injuries and is currently being kept in for further treatment.

The car, a silver Honda Accord, had been reported stolen from an address in Selside, Brownsover in Rugby at around 8.30am.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “It is believed an opportunist thief stole the car keys from the kitchen table while the owner was upstairs.

“Police are keen to hear from anyone in Selside or Hollowell Way in Brownsover who saw the car being driven away at around 8.30am.

“They would also like to hear from anyone who saw the silver Honda Accord being driven along Little Lawford Lane prior to the collision taking place at around 9.15am, or anyone who saw the collision itself.”

Witness can contact Detective Constable Richard Zarcone in the Rugby acquisitive crime team on the non emergency number 101 or (01926) 415000 extension 3839, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
