A CAR set on fire on the M1 yesterday (Wednesday) following an accident.
Police, firefighters and the Highways Agency all attended the scene of the crash on the M1 southbound between junction 17 the M45 Dunchurch and Watford Gap Services yesterday at around 4.40pm.
The accident involved two cars - one of which was on fire causing smoke to blow across the carriageway.
The incident blocked the southbound carriageway for sometime, leaving motorists stranded and tailbacks for miles past Rugby.
It also had a knock-on effect on the northbound carriageway due to the smoke, causing traffic to queue back as far as Northampton.
