POLICE investigating the disappearance of 77-year-old George Summerfield have issued a CCTV image of him in the hope of jogging memories and bringing forward more information.
Mr Summerfield was last seen two weeks ago, on Thursday March 29, in the village of Wolston. He was seen talking to two men on the Brandon Road Bridge over the River Avon, at about 11.30am that day. Neither of those men has yet been identified, and officers remain keen to speak to them or anyone who knows who they are.
He was also reported talking to someone in the car park of the Rose and Crown public house between 2pm and 4pm. Again, police would like to hear from that person.
The CCTV image was captured the previous day, Wednesday March 28, when Mr Summerfield withdrew cash from a machine at the Co-op in School Street. His bank account has not been accessed since.
Mr Summerfield was reported missing on Saturday March 31 by a relative who visited his home and raised the alarm. An extensive police search involving police officers, dogs and off road bikes was carried out during the following week.
Acting Sgt Stuart Powell, who is a member of the team investigating Mr Summerfield’s disappearance, said: “It is now two weeks since Mr Summerfield was last seen and we are very concerned for his welfare.
“We have conducted a thorough search of his home and the village of Wolston where he was last seen, and spoken to a number of people who have confirmed that Mr Summerfield is a creature of habit and for him to disappear like this is totally out of character.
“We are very grateful to the members of the local community who have been helping us with our search and circulating posters and information for us, and now appeal again to anyone who has not spoken to us but may have information to come forward.
“Did you see Mr Summerfield on March 29, or have you seen him since? If you saw him before then was there anything in his behaviour which made you concerned?
“We will continue to search for Mr Summerfield until he is found and the reason for his disappearance becomes clear.”
Mr Summerfield is described as a white male , 5’ 10” tall, and of medium build. He has a bald head apart from long, lank grey/black hair down the sides. Police say he often appears in something of an unkempt state.
He is thought to be wearing a dark anorak type jacket and usually wears a green checked flat cap.
Anyone who sees George is asked to dial 999 immediately, or anyone who has information about him or his whereabouts is asked to telephone the investigative team at Rugby Police Station on 01788 853990.
