Residents are celebrating after plans to build houses near Hillmorton Locks were ‘thrown out’ at a meeting last night.
Rugby Borough Council received an application to build a four-bedroom detached house with an outside store and garage, together with two semi-detached two-bedroom properties, at The Locks, Hillmorton.
Cllr Jim Buckley, ward councillor for Hillmorton, said he was delighted with the decision.
He said: “Hillmorton Locks are beautiful and the area should be protected.
“It’s a Conservation Area and there’s so much history surrounding it.
“It was the right decision and residents are very pleased that the plans were thrown out.
“I had a few calls after last night’s meeting and I could hear the clinking of glasses, so clearly people were celebrating the good news.”
The land is currently used for grazing horses.
