A bag filled with clothes and jewellery for charity was taken from outside a house in Rugby this morning (Tuesday).

Hugh Trimble put the bag outside his home in Lawrence Street at around 8am but later realised the contents had been stolen.

Mr Trimble said: “We were sitting in the garden between 8am and 9am and we heard a transit van pull up and pull off again but didn’t take any notice of it.

“I later went round to the front garden to mow the lawn. I had to move to flowers and I found the bag ripped open and hidden within the flowers.

“They had taken the contents.”

Mr Trimble reported the incident to the police and is now warning others to be vigilant.

“It’s very difficult to police but everyone needs to be warned.”

The clothes had been placed in a Sense charity bag ready to be collected to help raise funds for deafblind people.

Witnesses or anyone with information can police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
