A BUSY car park in Bilton village has closed due to vandalism.

The car park next to the Bilton Social Club was closed off and secured last week, raising concerns with villagers.

Resident John Williams said: “I think this could destroy the village. A lot of people use that car park to come into the village and go to the shops. The shops are bound to suffer.”

Court Warwickshire Ltd, who has a contract to buy the social club and land, confirmed this week that it had been instructed by the current owners - the Trustees of Bilton Social Club - to put the fencing up.

Chairman Richard Haywood said: “We’ve been instructed to put the fence up by the trustees. The fence has been put up because of vandalism and to protect to the building.”

Mr Haywood said he was not certain what his company would do with the site yet but it will be redeveloped for community or shopping purposes.
