COUNCILLORS at Rugby Borough Council have approved plans to built a controversial 550-berth marina in Onley.
Last night’s (Wednesday) unanimous decision at the Town Hall in Rugby follows on from Daventry District Council approving the plans last week.
Cllr Helen Walton said: “I think this is brilliant. It’s great to see so many spaces provided.”
Cllr Carol Robbins added: “I agree, I think it looks great, it represents a great amenity that will be of use to lots of people.”
Cllr Neil Sandison said: “This is good, sustainable, green growth. This will help support the businesses on the canal corridor. This is a very good, thoroughly researched application, and the applicant has put a lot of hard work into it. It seems to be sustainable, has taken environmental issues into account and it will help boost the local economy.’
Now that both councils have approved the plans, the developers will be free to build the marina - which has been dubbed a ‘monster’ by campaigners.
