JOHN Craven was the celebrity guest invited to open a new wildlife garden at a village school near Rugby.

Provost Williams Primary School in Ryton-on-Dunsmore welcomed the Countryfile and former Newsround presenter to officially open the new wildlife area.

It has been named Katie’s Garden in memory of year six pupil Katie Spencer, who died suddenly earlier this year.

John was given a tour of the garden, before chatting to the pupils about his career.

Daniel Ridges, 11, also gave a speech on behalf of the school’s ‘eco warriors’.

The school is celebrating achieving ‘green flag ‘status for its eco-friendly work.

John told staff: “What great kids you have a Provost Williams.

“I was particularly impressed by the knowledgable and dedicated eco warriors and I thought Daniel gave a fine speech. Pity about the rain but it certainly didn’t dampen their enthusiasm.”
