Warwickshire County Council has challenged the Government in the courts over its plans for a new high-speed rail service.
It is one of the local authorities which is a member of the 51M Group - a consortium opposed to the ‘HS2’ proposals - which has provided a co-ordinated opposition to the scheme.
Cllr Bob Stevens, deputy leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “As a member of the 51M Group, we can confirm that we are one of the local authorities who issued a High Court challenge to HS2 on Tuesday this week. Our challenge criticises the way the Government has consulted, how it made the decision to go ahead with HS2 and how it proposes to push the legislation through Parliament.
“Despite our deep concerns about the principle and methodology of HS2, we will still maintain an open dialogue with HS2 Limited to make sure that we can influence the detail of the scheme for the benefit of Warwickshire residents if, despite our efforts, it does go ahead.”
