CAMPAIGNERS met at Rugby Town Hall steps on Friday to present their petition against the £3m crematorium plans for Rainsbrook Valley.

Members of the Residents for the Protection of Rainsbrook Valley are worried about the loss of open countryside, and an increase in pollution and traffic.

Lesley Link, who speaks on behalf of the group, said: “We were delighted by the response from the people of Rugby who have been eager to sign the petition.

“We presented our petition now due to the imminent local elections, but we still intend to collect signatures because people still want to sign.”

Protesters have also sent in more than 500 letters to the council objecting to the building of a crematorium and cemetery on the Ashlawn Road site. Lesley added: “We want the council to think very seriously about this response from the people of Rugby and not just dismiss it,”
