Two men have pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to taking part in conspiracies to supply heroin to drug users in Rugby.

Michael Slate and Tafara Creary were among 31 defendants to appear at the court for preliminary hearings after being arrested in a series of police raids earlier this month.

The raids were the culmination of the latest phase of Warwickshire Police’s Operation Laser, which has targeted drug dealers in the county.

During 12 preliminary hearings, prosecutors Emma Cutts and Shenaz Muzaffer outlined a timetable for the prosecution papers to be served on all defence solicitors by January 9.

Slate, 43, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to supply heroin between September 17 last year and November 8 this year.

Miss Cutts said there was a written basis of plea which the prosecution could not accept until the situation in relation to the other defendants was resolved.

Creary, 29, of James Galloway Close, Coventry, pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply heroin and crack cocaine between the same dates.

Their cases were adjourned for them to appear again with the other defendants in February, and they were both remanded in custody.

Adjourning the case, Judge Robert Orme remanded Slate and Creary in custody, together with Claire Ellis, 28, of Worcester Street, Rugby, Andrew Murdoch, 42, of Martins Lane, Rugby; Jason Warne, 38, of Oliver Street, Rugby; Ian Murray, 40, of Pennington Street, Rugby; Patrick Hannifin, 48, of Grosvenor Road, Rugby; Craig Smith, 33, of Southwark, London; Carol Mosey, 51, of Foster Road, Rugby; Dave Sewell, 40, of Keswick Gardens, Rugby; Lee Burn, 33, of Eskdale, Brownsover; Scott McGregor, 29, of Hardwick Court, Rugby; Craig McGregor, 35, of Ashwood Court, Rugby; Martin Jones, 20, of Ferndown Road, Rugby; Christopher White, 36, of Worcester Road, Rugby; James Wilkins, 33, of Stonefall Avenue, Harrogate; Christine Tune, 47, of Biart Place, Rugby; Terry Foster, 34, of Howkins Road, Rugby; Levi Ruddock, 43, of Fornside, Brownsover; Malcolm Windows, 38, of Murray Road, Rugby; Riasat Ali, 25, of Plaistow Avenue, Hodge Hill, Birmingham; and Anthony Nicholson, 52, of Schoolfield Grove, Rugby.
