A man has been arrested following a road rage incident in New Bilton.

At around 12.45pm on Sunday a cyclist was travelling along Avenue Road when a car impatiently tried to get past.

According to police, the male driver of the vehicle cut in front of the cyclist at the junction of Gladstone Street.

The driver got out of the vehicle and punched the cyclist twice to the head.

Officers later traced the driver after collisions in Craven Road and South Street.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report a road traffic collision.

He was also arrested for failing to provide a breath test.

The man has been bailed to reappear before police on June 6.
