The case against a retired police officer charged with the theft of £113,000 cash from Warwickshire Police will have to start again because of an administrative error by the court at the first hearing.

Paul Andrew Greaves appeared before magistrates in Leamington on Wednesday this week when the court was told that because of the earliest date of the offence (June 2009) old style committal proceedings would have to be followed.

It has since been acknowledged that this was incorrect and proceedings will have to start again under new rules.

Greaves will re-attend court on Monday June 3.
