THOUSANDS of students in Warwickshire will be celebrating today (Thursday) as they receive their A-level, AS-level and vocational results.

Over 4,000 17 and 18-year-olds completed their courses and took their exams earlier this year, at 22 maintained schools, academies and further education colleges around Warwickshire.

The county has not yet received the individual school results but is expecting impressive outcomes. The final details of the county’s performance will be available in the autumn.

Cllr Heather Timms, Warwickshire County Council’s cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “Thousands of Warwickshire teenagers have worked very hard at their courses over the past one or two years and we are extremely proud to see them succeed.

“Today is about much more than A-levels - students who have attained further education qualifications such as BTECs, and other vocational qualifications, should also be congratulated on their achievements. The good set of results we are expecting is a testament not just to each individual’s hard work, but also to the first class teaching, support and encouragement provided by school and college staff, parents and carers.”

In addition to A-level students receiving their results today, students from across the post-16 sector have been receiving successful results from a range of vocationally related qualifications, including BTECs and National Vocational qualifications. Last year there were around 14,000 students aged 16-19 in Warwickshire schools and colleges.

While many have gained the grades they need for higher education or their chosen employment route, there are those who have not achieved the outcomes they had hoped for. For those who did not attain the results they expected, advice, guidance and support is available from the Connexions service and through their schools and colleges.

Warwickshire County Council will be analysing the results over the coming weeks to assess the full countywide picture.
