LIFE changed for no fewer than 1,014 children in and around Rugby this week as the new school year began.
Crisp uniforms were worn for the first time as proud parents waved off their little ones for their first day as reception class pupils.
The Advertiser paid a visit to St Andrew’s Benn Primary School, in Chester Street, where 37 new children joined the register.
Jennifer Evans, mother to Shay and Kian Hooper, said: “I think I was more nervous than Shay.
“He didn’t want to wear his new jumper!”
Shay said: “I had a very busy day. It was good.”
Lucia Morais found saying goodbye to her son Antonio at the school gates an emotional experience.
“I’ve missed him so much,” she said.
Antonio said he was looking forward to returning to the school for the rest of the week.
Guy Illing said he would get to spend more time with his son Leo now he has started school.
“Leo has been fine,” Guy said.
“I had been looking forward to starting school,” said Leo.
