Works by one of Britain’s foremost portrait painters feature at an exhibition currently on at Rugby School.
The Fragments of Truth, which showcases paintings by John Devane, runs at the Lewis Gallery until October 4.
Devane is a current runner-up of the BP Portrait Award, while his prize-winning painting is still on show at the National Portrait Gallery.
This exhibition features his family and domestic life portrayed in striking works. In The Contract, for instance, his adolescent son strikes a defiant pose that’s reinforced by the triangular shape of his hunched upper body, lit by the glow of a laptop.
