A new horizon - homes, jobs and shopping centre
THE FUTURE of Rugby has been unveiled.
This includes about 11,000 extra homes, a new shopping centre, new schools and businesses - a population increase of 30,000.
One of the surprises in the plans is an extra 1,300 houses on fields to the west of Coton Meadows.
As expected, a further 6,200 houses could be built on the former mast site at Hillmorton.
On top of that, 4,600 extra jobs are hoped to be created through new businesses.
And progress on the proposed huge shopping complex in North Street is also hoped to gather pace this year. More shops are hoped to be built on the Gala Bingo site at the bottom of North Street - as we revealed in 2006.
The proposals have all been put forward in Rugby Borough Council's Preferred Option Core Strategy that will be considered by the Cabinet on Monday, August 18. This is part of the Government's scheme for Rugby to build 10,800 extra homes by 2026.
